People often shy away while talking about sexual health. But World Health Organization considers sexual health important criteria for maintaining human health. It includes everything, right from having enjoyable sex to testing for sexual transmitted diseases (STDs) and their treatment and prevention.
According to Michael McGee, MEd, a certified sexual health educator and adjunct professor at Montclair State University in Montclair, N.J., "Sexual health is an essential and beneficial dimension of being human. McGee is an experienced teacher and advocate on sexual related health, and counsels' people on various sex health issues.
An individual should have an idea of sexual health, so that he/she can able to take care of oneself as well as that of partner. There are some issues of sexual health that people must learn and understand: These are issues on sexual desires, reproduction, erectile dysfunction, erectile dysfunction, physical challenges and many more.
Sex can bring happiness to people, but several risks are attached with it. One of the important things of concern is the sexual transmitted diseases (STDs), which can be harmful and painful. Some of the STDs are curable, but if left untreated they can lead to serious disastrous consequences. When we talk about sexual health, we refer to knowledge about STDs.
A person should have knowledge about numerous symptoms of STD and the ways to prevent the diseases. Prevention should be taken seriously when it comes to STD, because that ensures that protection of health. STD testing is a vital criterion of the sexual plan. A person should have check up to find whether indeed he/she is carrying an STD. Treatment should be started if someone is tested positive, as delay may result in further complications in sexual life. Some of the common STDs are Chlamydia, herpes, gonorrhea, hepatitis, HIV/AIDS and a person suffering from STD should learn to cope with infections in long term.
